Garrido-Lecca, Gonzalo (b. 1975)

Garrido-Lecca, Gonzalo (b. 1975)

Biography

Gonzalo Garrido-Lecca´s music has been performed widely in many concert halls of different countries such as Spain, Argentina, Finland, Peru, Chile, Romania and the United States. He writes mainly concert music but also collaborates frequently with artists from other disciplines and has written music for video, dance and theatre. His most recent works evolve within a aesthetic standpoint that gives primordial importance to harmony, based on natural resonance, that is articulated in rich polyphonic textures, vigorous rythmic impulses and clear formal stuctures. Works like 'Alemí' (2007) for ensemble, 'Caleidoscopio' for six instrumentalists, and the orchestral work 'Solar' (2014) show this approach. In other works like 'Tarkas' (2013), he incorporates the expression of the folkloric music of the Andes, blending the rich tradition of South American folk music with the latest trends of contemporary concert music, in an attempt to create a new form of imaginary folklore. Mr. Garrido-Lecca has also appeared as piano accompanist in several concerts featuring his own music, and has played live on theatre plays. He currently is professor of Composition, and Musical Analysis at the Music School of Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUPC). He has received first prize in Choral writing contest 'Ciudad de Getafe 2005', Second prize in Composition contest organized by IPAE 1999, and second prize in 'Young Composers Contest Sgae-Fundación Autor 2009' .
